Before you begin, here’s everything you need to know

When it comes to watches there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach. Sure, you can wear a watch of any size but just like a tailor-made suit, it will look best when it fits. So how do you choose the right size for your wrist? Read on to find out.

Case Width

This is the most obvious indicator of how big a watch will be. However, case diameter alone is not the only factor when determining if a watch will fit your wrist. One quick way to check if a watch is too big for your wrist is to look at the lugs. If they reach past the curve of your wrist, then it may not be the right fit as your strap will be ‘floating’ above your wrist.

That being said, there are no definitive rules when it comes to choosing a case size for your wrist. Everybody has a particular look they are going for with each watch, so the best way to find out whether a watch is right for you is to put it on your wrist to get a better look and feel for it. However, if you want a guide before you head to our boutique, we have created this printable template for you to test out different sizes.

Case thickness

Case thickness is another element that can affect how a watch sits on your wrist. Naturally, a thicker watch will appear larger but also feel bulkier on the wrist as you move your arm around. Another factor to consider is whether you want the watch to fit under your shirt cuff. Are you trying to make a statement, thick cases are best; if you are trying to be discreet, thinner cases will slip effortlessly under the cuff hiding your timepiece until you need it.

STRAPS AND BRACELETS

The decision to go with a strap or bracelet is an entirely personal one. However, the size of your wrist may play a part in which you choose. For example, if you have thicker wrists, you may need to add a link or two when it comes to a bracelet or remove them if you have smaller wrists. The same goes for a leather, rubber or fabric strap, holes may need to be added depending on your wrist.

Even for older watches, changing a strap may be the easiest way to breathe new life into a watch as this simple swap can drastically change the look of any watch.

To get the best fit for your straps and bracelet it's best to ask the specialists at our boutiques for help. If you are looking to size it yourself, here is a printable guide to help you on your way.
